Cortland Preschool

Identity for a Reggio Emilia Approach® preschool in Chicago.

This one is a bit personal as Amy was a friend of mine prior to her opening the preschool and going through this process with her irrevocably shaped both our lives (in a good way). Cortland Preschool was founded to offer children a safe, nurturing environment within which to explore and engage with their world. Every detail was geared towards creating a place where children could be curious and encouraged to express their unique thoughts and personhood.

Amy knew she wanted a ‘C’ in the style of a storybook or fairy tale letter and I added the apple as a nod to the teachers that would soon be helping children grow within the school’s newly constructed walls. The point of this project was never the branding and I didn’t do much beyond the logo mark as funds were better allocated elsewhere. Amy ran Cortland from 2009 until July of 2020 with immense passion and dedication. To this day I’m so grateful to have been a part of her story and know the children that passed through the school are better for it.

Created 2009.

Cortland Preschool opened in 2009 as a Reggio Emilia inspired constructivist preschool for children ages 3-6.
